Year 6 into 7 transition
In order to support students making the transition to Atlantic Academy, we work with Primary schools to get to know pupils in advance of them joining us, and key members of staff visit the local primary schools during the Spring and Summer terms of Year 6.
In the summer term, we offer an introduction meeting with parents, and induction days where the new cohort can work together and meet staff. Students will follow their Year 7 timetable on these induction days, helping to get to know the site, the subjects and their new teachers. Student leaders from other year groups will guide pupils around on these days.
We invite all prospective students and their families to our open evening, held in the first half term of the academic year. Dates will be advertised on our website in advance, as well as through local primary schools and in local press. Alternatively, please contact us to arrange a visit to our site.
Transition arrangements during school closures – 2020
Due to the closure of schools in March 2020, our transition arrangements for our September intake have altered. We will be contacting all families after Easter by telephone, to discuss transition to secondary school. We will be in discussion with primary schools, particularly Year 6 teachers, to find out about the strengths of students joining us, and to enable us to better understand how to support them. Where students have additional needs, we will create individual transition plans. Letters confirming planned arrangements have been sent to all families with a confirmed place at Atlantic Academy.
Learning passports have also been sent to new students, for them to complete and return to us after Easter. Enrolment paperwork, including requests for bus transport, will also be sent out after Easter.
