We are still recruiting additional members to our local governing body, whose responsibilities are to oversee the development of teaching and learning at Atlantic Academy. Gilly Sanders

Gilly retired in 2010 and moved to North Devon in 2012 following a career in marketing communications; she worked in media planning and buying in London for over 35 years in both public and private sector. She has been a school governor for over 20 years and, until 2012, served the primary and secondary schools in West London attended by her two children.

Gilly is part of the Launceston College MAT board, and has been responsible for overseeing the conversion of the school to the Launceston College MAT. Gilly is currently the chair of the Atlantic Academy Local Governing Body.

Dr Alan Whittle

Alan has worked in the scientific industry since graduating University with PhD in Chemistry.  Specialising in chemical synthesis and project management, Alan has worked for many organisations and in different locations both in the UL and abroad.  Since retiring, Alan has chosen to support a range of orgnisations where he feels his skills will be useful, including RHS Rosemoor, the National Trust and the Parish Council.

Alan will be undertaking the role of Health and Safety Governor.

John Gardiner

John started his career as a history teacher, enjoying the many academic and pastoral opportunities which formed part of this.    From there, John established his own business, as an early pioneer in reducing plastic waste over 25 years ago.  The company, with Johns involvement, supplies recycled polymers for the interiors of cars, including a range of well known brands.

Now mainly retired, John enjoys a range of hobbies and activities, with a particular passion for flying light aircraft.  John has served as a governor for Egloskerry Primary school and is looking forward to support Atlantic Academy.

John will be focused on monitoring the provision and progress of pupil premium students.

Dr Janice Haddon

Janice is a local GP, and has worked within the healthcare sector in North Cornwall and North Devon for many years.  Previously a governor when her children were at Primary school in Bude, and was part of the Cornwall Schools Governing Council.
