On Wednesday 25th September Atlantic Academy hosted it’s first round of Career’s Talks of this academic year. Each half term all students have the opportunity to have a meaningful encounter with two employers from an industry that take their interest. For this round we welcomed:
- Julie Webber from Colorseum Hair and Beauty
- Paula Hook from Willmott Dixon (Engineering)
- Lucy Warner from NDDH (NHS)
- Adrian Redwoods from Torridge District Council (Trade industry)
Our guests shared their experiences of life within the industry, employability skills, qualifications and expectations of the employers. The students were provided with an opportunity to engage with the professionals, asking questions and participating in interactive activities. Here are a few comments from the students:
“I loved hearing about the variety of jobs involved in the NHS and this is certainly something that I would want to do for work experience”.
“I had no idea that playing computer games would help me get a job in construction”.
“There are so many career pathways to choose from and this really helps me understand what they are like”.
The next set of career talks are due to take place in November where we welcome professionals from the leisure industry, accountancy, the National Trust and a veterinarian.
If you would like to visit the school and talk to the students about your industry, please send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org and check out the link to the our careers information.
